What this site is

Rate My Landlord publishes reviews written by renters about buildings and the landlords or management companies that operate them. Reviews are the personal opinions and individual experiences of the people who wrote them. We do not verify, endorse, or adopt them, and they are not statements of fact by this site.

User-generated content

Content on this site is submitted by third parties. As an interactive computer service we are not the publisher or speaker of information provided by our users. We moderate in good faith, and moderating some content does not make us responsible for all of it.

Your responsibilities when posting

• Write only about your own experience as a tenant or applicant.
• Do not post statements you know to be false.
• Do not post anyone's personal contact information.
• Do not post threats, harassment, or slurs.
• You keep ownership of what you write, and grant us a licence to host and display it.

You are responsible for what you post. Knowingly false statements of fact about an identifiable business or person are not protected opinion, and are the one thing that puts a reviewer at genuine risk.

Anonymity and what we store

Reviews are anonymous. We do not require an account and we do not ask for your name or email. We do not store your IP address — we store a one-way cryptographic hash of it, which lets us stop spam and cannot be reversed to identify you. We would only ever disclose information we actually hold, and we hold very little.

Reporting a review

Every review has a report link. Reports go to a human moderator. Reviews found to contain false statements of fact, personal information, harassment, or spam are removed. Reviews are not removed for being negative, and removal cannot be purchased.

If you are a landlord or manager named on this site, you may also request a right of reply to be published alongside a review.

Accuracy of building and ownership data

Building and ownership records are compiled from public sources and tenant reports and may be incomplete or out of date. Reviews remain associated with the owner at the time they were written; a building changing hands does not transfer its review history to the new owner. If ownership information is wrong, report it and we will correct it.

No warranty

The site is provided as is. Ratings are aggregates of subjective opinions and are not a professional assessment of any building. Nothing here is legal advice. If you are in a dispute with a landlord, talk to a tenant lawyer or your local housing authority.
